Improved Cider and Wine Mill. The cider mill here illustrated combines the grind-ing apparatus and the press in one machine; thegrinding apparatus embracing also a crushing device,so that a complete mill is formed in one compactmachine. The fruit is placed inthe hopper, A, and falls down between the rotatingcylinder, B, and stationary concave, C, both furnishedwith teeth for tearing the fruit in pieces. Turf. Two crushers, D and E, are suspended at theirupper ends within the hopper, and are caused toswing toward and from the cylinder, B, by means of acrank shaft, /, Fig. 1, through the medium of theconnecting rods, d and e, Fig. 2. Each of the crush- machine by a set screw so that it may be adjusted atsuch distance from the cylinder, B, as may be deemedadvisable. The several motions described are effectedby gear wheels and pinions of ordinary construction. The inventor says that he has sold several hundredof these mills, and that in all cases they have givensatisfaction ; he has never yet had a single several trials they have been awarded the highestpremium for lightness of power, speed of work, & further says that the mill will make from six toeight barrels of cider per day, that it is well suitedfor crushing and pressing grapes, that it forms anexcellent cheese press and lard press, that it is veryportable and occupies little spa
