Flowers on a quince tree (variety: Cydonia oblonga), in an organic orchard in Bristol.


An ancient fruit cultivated for more than four thousand years, probably pre-dating apple cultivation. Astringent, hard flesh. Used for cooking and preserves; also grown for its blossom. Harvest in October. Storage: October-December.
