In this engagement, which is known as the battle of Gressaire Woodand Chipilly Ridge, the men of the 131st Regiment were under a tremendoushandicap. They were thrown suddenly into a heavy engagement withoutadequate preparations and were pitted against some of the most seasoned ofthe German troops. Under such adverse conditions, the 131st conducteditself in a manner that reflected great credit upon the enlisted personnel andofficers of the regiment.
