Turkey, The Goddess Artemis at Ephesus. Artemis was the twin of Apollo and the virginal huntress. Her body is covered in eggs to denote her fertility. Her Temple at Ephesus is said to be constructed in the second half of the eighth C BC. A new temple this time built of marble was constructed around 550BC by Croesus which became a place for sightseeing by kings and merchants many of whom were followers of Artemis. The temple was destroyed in 356BC by Herostratus and restored after Alexander the Great's death in 323 BC.
