Yule's "The Book of Marco Polo" (1871) is labeled: The Bridge of Pulisanghin (reduced from a Chinese original).
This illustration in Sir Henry Yule's "The book of Marco Polo published in 1871 is labeled: The Bridge of Pulisanghin (reduced from a Chinese original). According to Marco Polo's description of his own travels, he says that after he left the city of Cambulac in China, he came to a large river that he called Pulisanghin. Polo was here in 1276, but his account dates to 20 years later - hence, perhaps the difference in name. Its name is actually Lugou Bridge, but it is sometimes called the Marco Polo Bridge. Its construction dates to the late 12th century - just a few decades before Polo arrived. The bridge has survived to the present and is situated about 15 km southwest of the center of Beijing.
