The skin is finely netted, and the melon is handsome in ap-pearance and sure to attract attention In the market. I advise growersto pinch ofl the ends of the main shoots when two or three feet long, toencourage more abundant blossoming and earlier maturity. Thispractice makes the fruit heavier as well as earlier. The Grand Rapidsis absolutely the earliest of all large melons, and I particularly recom- y mend It to those whose profits depend upon being first in market. Packet, 5 cts.; ounce, 10 cts.; % pound, 30 cts.; pound, MAULES SUPERIOR. — (Green flesh.) This excellent earlymuskmelon, which I introduced, now holds a permanent place inpublic esteem. It ripens about the same time as Jenny Lind, but larather larger than that variety. Its shape and appearance are shownin the illustration. The vine is very prolific, frequently producingfive to seven melons. The quality is unsurpassed, and it is a perfectshipper. The fruit is never known to crack or rot at the blossom end,and is so attractive In appearance as to command a higher price in themarkets than other early sorts.
