Shells 150 mm ammunition seen at Stevnsfortress Denmark The fort have two concrete bunker with 2 large 150 mm cannons which came from the German battleship Gneisenau The cannons could be operated from below by a 20 meter deep shaft The shells had a range of 23 km and could penetrate 12 cm of steel During the Cold War the fort played an important role in surveillance of the entrence to the Baltic Sea where the USSR Navy had important bases For instance was information collected at the fort used by NATO in the Cuba Crisis Between 1952 1954 1 6 km of corridors and all the necessary rooms were excavated to make an underground fort The fort was manned 24hrs until the 29th September 2000 when the order came that it was not needed any more From the top secret operations room surveillances was made over the Oresund and the Baltic as far as Bornholm
