Breast cancer. Light micrograph of a breast carci- noma (malignant tumour) in section. The large, dark-staining cells are cancer cells invading pink-staining connective tissue. Their abnormally large nuclei indicate rapid cell division. The clear cells at the bottom are fat cells. In the top left is an inflammatory infiltrate of white blood cells (lymphocytes). Breast carcinomas most often arise from the cells lining milk ducts. Un- less destroyed early the cancer can spread around the body with fatal results. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Sample prepared with hematoxylin and eosin. Magnification x125 at 35mm size.
