He was the last of the foundersof the Constitution of the UnitedStates to 1)6 called to his eternalreward. The Madison family were amongthe early emigrants to the New World,landing upon the shores of the Chesa-peake but 15 years after the settle-ment of Jamestown. The father ofJames Madison was an opulentplanter, residing upon a very fine es-tate called Montpelier, Orange Co.,Va. The mansion was situated inthe midst of scenery highly pictur-esque and romantic, on the west sideof South-west Mountain, at the fool ofBlue Ridge. It was but 25 miles from the home ofJefferson at Monticello. The closest jjersonal andpolitical attachment existed between these
