(Fig. 108). 2l6 BRAIN AND MIND. A head high in the crown, upward and backward fromthe ears, indicates a large development of the organs re-lating to personal aspiration, and a character marked bystability, pride, self-reliance, independence, and love ofdistinction. (Fig. 109). The Social region of the brain is measured by the full-ness of the head behind the ears. One well developed inthis part indicates a fraternal, friendly, sociable disposition,and a character marked by love of country, home, friends,and -Large Organs. If the head be broad above and around the ears, thegroup of the selfish propensities will be largely developed,and the individual will be characterized by great energyand force of character, and by courage, prudence, policy,economy, and executive ability. (Fig. no). In estimating the influence which any one of these re-gions has upon the character, it should be borne in mindthat it is its size as compared with the other regions, ratherthan its absolute size, by which its influence is to be meas-ured. Two heads, for instance, may measure exactly thesame in circumference, breadth, length, anterior projection.
