With a scanty remnant of officers the column were many halts during the morning for adjustments of loads and thenoon mess was held just outside of Certellieux. In the afternoon the convoymoved steadily along until it reached Sartes, the end of the journey. Thereturn trip on the following day went along without a hitch, demonstratingthe value of the practice.
