07/01/13 A huge flock of pink-footed geese near Holkham, Norfolk. Every winter more than 100,000 pink-footed geese come to Britain. After travelling from Greenland and Iceland, the birds head for Norfolk where they gorge themselves on the tops of sugar beet plants that have been left by the farmers after the crop has been harvested. Every evening, just after dark, wave after wave of geese return, resembling second world war bomber squadrons, in tight triangular formations, known as skeins, to the safety of the predator-free mudflats at Snettisham to roost.
