He settled first in the WestIndies, later in Philadelphia, where he married,in 1736, a Miss Catherine MacCall. His highstanding as a descendant of an old Scottishstock is shown by his being elected Presidentof the St. Andrew Society of Philadelphia. He left eleven children;—and we have repro-duced his arms from a bookplate having be-longed to him. Another Inglis, the Reverend Charles, Rectorof Trinity Church, New York, from 1777 to1783, caused the same arms to be engraved onhis wifes tombstone, in old St. Pauls church-yard. A later James Inglis, , born in Phila-delphia in 1777, was Pastor of the first Presby-terian Church of Baltimore. There is but one coat of arms used—withslight differences—by the many branches of theInglis family of Scotland. Crest : A demi-lion, rampant;proper — in the dexter paw amullet, or. KALEVIM
