Mudslide in Brienz, Switzerland, in August 2005. Brienz is a village on the shore of Lake Brienz. In August 2005, heavy rains from thunderstorms saturated the flanks of the mountains in this region, causing numerous landslides and mudflows. In Brienz, the Glyssibach stream became massively engorged with mud and debris, and burst its banks and swept through the village, destroying several houses.
