Belene in northern Bulgaria is the construction site of the countries second nuclear power plant with a planned output of 2x1000MW. After almost 24 years of work the plant is still only half-finished and in March 2012 plans for completion have been abandoned. No reactors have been installed, one reactor has been finished by the Russian company Rosatom, it is planned to be installed in the Kozloduy NPP, a few kilometers to the west.
