Solar-powered electric bicycle. The bike can be pedalled or used with an electric motor powered by stored electricity generated from the solar panel (blue and yellow, rectangular), mounted on front of the bicycle. Solar panels are collections of photovoltaic cells (here, blue), which use a light-absorbing material to generate electricity from sunlight. The material most commonly used is silicon. Electricity from solar power is a clean non-polluting form of energy when compared to electricity distributed from coal fired power stations, as solar panels do not produce pollutant gases.
