Blood centrifuge. Machine used to separate the various components in blood. Sample tubes (vacutainers, blue) containing blood samples are placed in the centre of the machine and are spun at high speed around a central axis. The force created by the spinning separates groups of particles with different densities. Blood is separated into red cells, white cells and plasma. Hospital laboratory technicians analyse blood for signs of illness and also ascertain the blood type of samples for transfusions.
