Platelet-rich plasma research. Artwork showing research into the healing properties of platelet-rich plasma (PPR) gel. The PPR gel is being applied to a goat vertebra (spine bone). PPR is blood plasma, the liquid component of blood, that has been enriched with platelets, white blood cell fragments. Platelets are a source of growth factors, which promote tissue healing. There are many different growth factors, which act on different tissues. Finding the optimum mix of growth factors for treating different tissues could lead to faster and more successful healing.
