In the installationillustrated, particular attention has been paid to an arrangement bywhich the switching operations, by means of a traveling platform, can be carried out in such a manner that the trolley cars can bemoved only in entire trains. It will be noticed that the manufacture is almost automatic. If thenecessary amount of steam is provided for, there is nothing in theprocess itself that requires supervision. The transportation is practi-cally all mechanical, the actual handling of the briquettes being nec-essary only once: namely, in transferring them from the press to thetrolleys before they are hardened. The labor required for an instal-lation of two presses consists of a foreman and 14 men, includinglabor for steaming drums, grinding and conveying machinery, presses, hardening kilns, and trolley transportation.
