In America, just at this time, our Civil War wasdrawing to a close, and Clara Barton, who had donemuch for the wounded soldiers of both the Northand the South, was made the representative of theRed Cross in America, and through her love andefforts, her patience and loyalty, carried the RedCross through the first 16 years of slow growth andlimited activity.
