His first expedition (231-233)against Artaxerxes, King of Persia, wasterminated by a speedy overthrow of theenemy; but during one which he under-took in 234 against the Germans on theRhine an insurrection broke out amonghis troops, headed by Maximus, in whichAlexander was murdered (235).
