Wallerian degeneration of a frog nerve, three weeks after nerve section. Augustus Volney Waller, 1850. Augustus Volney Waller (1816-1870) was a British neurophysiologist. He was the first to describe the degeneration of severed nerve fibers, now known as Wallerian degeneration.
