"Major Gerald 1. Ellis, an A-4B Skyhawk pilot with Marine Attack Squadron-311, receives the Silver Star Medal from Major General Norman J. Anderson, Commanding General of the First Marine Aircraft Wing, on October 1, 1967. Ellis' aircraft was hit by enemy ground fire on September 27 over North Vietnam, but he successfully delivered his ordnance, destroying four enemy artillery positions before ejecting from his disabled aircraft."
