Fossilised prehistoric hominid remains. Collection of fossilised remains of an Australopithecus sp. hominid primate found at the Sterkfontein caves in South Africa. Numerous early hominid remains have been found at these caves, which were declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. The discovery of these particular remains led researchers to find a complete Australopithecus skeleton, thought to be around million years old, encased in rock deep in the caves.
