At the afternoon session an interesting lecture wasgiven by Rev. Frank J. Milman, of Newark, N. J.,on the Mining of Anthracite Coal. Mr. Milmanwas himself once a breaker boy and is, therefore,able to describe conditions from personal knowl-edge. His remarks were illustrated by 130 coloredstereopticon slides, showing mining methods, theproblems of light, water and gas, scenes of theminer at work a thousand feet or more under theearth, and incidents connected witli his daily toil;the life of the mule and how he lives under theearth, scenes of first aid work and rescue of injuredmen, and illustrations of the living conditions ofthe mining population.
