A Cory's Shearwater flies low over the sea with the peak of Pico providing a dramatic backdrop. Pico island is the second largest of the Azores. Dominating the western end of the island is the impressive stratovolcano of Pico Alto rising to 2 351 m, the highest mountain on Portuguese territory.
