The growth is very similar to Peerless Pink and the growers from Chicago and vicinity that visited the Chicago Carnation Co.'s greenhouses on the annual excursion last December saw this variety when it was in crop and were most highly pleased with it. Care of Growing Stock. It is a great satisfaction to everyone concerned when the benches are all filled and the carnations planted; es- pecially so. when the plants are a good thrifty looking lot of stock. Most of the plants that have come under our notice this summer all look good, not quite as large as some years, out nice sturdy branching stock. These plants had the benefit of good rams the early part of the time they were in the field so that they made good growth and have stood the hot dry spell of the last month in good shape; afeo we find very little red spider on the plants this year. Usually m this section we have considerable trouble with this pest. , A word or two about the plants you intend to plant into the benches. Let me impress upon every grower the im- portance of planting only the very best plants you can get. Should any of the plants on hand be scrubs and not up to the standard, do not plant them, but buy some fresh stock to take their place so that the whole place is planted with an even lot of first class plants ready to do business from the start. One thing of great importance we should bear in mind, and that is. we must not lay down in the care of the plants because they are all in the benches. There are many little
