Memorial outside Norwich Cathedral to British nurse Edith Cavell, executed in German-occupied Belgium in October 1915.


Edith Louisa Cavell was born in Swardeston near Norwich on December 4th 1865. During the First World War she worked as a nurse in German-occupied Belgium. As well as caring for the wounded of both sides, she smuggled Allied soldiers to neautral Holland. For this she was arrested and executed by German firing squad on 12th October 1915.
