Monthly folders aregenerally used for this purpose as shown in the illustration,although in the case of some of the smaller correspondingbanks, it may be sufficient to use an expanding folder, or touse bi-monthly or semi-annual folders. The method shown in the illustration \^^ll answer in thecase of small and medium-sized banks. In some of thelarger banks it is necessary on account of the bulk of the. TRANSFER CASE FOR FILIXG OLD CORRESPOKDENCE matter to separate it into classes through the use of coloredfolders. Each folder may contain the correspondence fora period of one or two months. These colored folders arefiled directly back of the guide in place of the monthly fold-ers. Each class of correspondence is distinguished by a dif-ferent color, and the tabs of the folders are printed in somesuch classification as follows: Official, Sundry,Acknowledgments, Collections, Cash Letters and Re-turns for Transient Accounts, Letters of Advice. The contents of a file of transit correspondence is gen-erally transferred at from intervals of two to six months,depending upon the length of time during wliich referenceis desired to these original documents. It is transferred tovertical drawer style transfer cases, where the folders arekept in the same order as in the active file.
