Palate after corrective surgery (uvulopalatoplasty, UVP) on the mouth of a 35 year old man. This operation was carried out to stop the patient snoring. A UVP involves removing tissue from the soft palate and tightening up lax tissue. This can prevent some forms of snoring caused by the soft palate vibrating as the sleeping person breathes.
