I would appreciate your advice re- garding glass for a house 21x91 feet, ?which has 6-foot posts and 12-foot sash- bars. I am trying to get away from the high cost of glass as much as pos- sible, and I was thinking of using single- strength B grade glass, assorting the heaviest of it for the parts most ex- posed. Ill the matter of ventilators, would you have them directly opposite each alternate them;' Using hot water, how many feet of glass will be heateil to r>'i degrees in zero weather bv a square foot of grate area? A. E. P.—111. Wliile single-strength glass will an- swer well for the ends and sides of the house, we would prefer to use double strength if glass more tlian twelve or fourteen inches wide is to be put in. Narrow glass may be used for certain plants, such as palms, ferns and violets, but we would prefer glass sixteen to twenty inches wide for roses, carnations and most flowering }»lants. It will make little diflFerenee whether the ventilators are oi»]»osite or alternate with each other. The capaeity of a lH)iler de])ends not only upon the area of the grate, but also upon the amount and arrangement of the hfeating surface. The house sliown in the sketch is 21x91 feet, wit
