Knee alignment surgery. X-ray of the knee of a 55 year old overweightpatient that has undergone a wedge osteotomy to correct the alignment of the knee joint. A wedge (centre, beneath first pin) has been placed in the head of the right tibia (shinbone) to correct the alignment of the tibia and femur (thigh bone, top). This restores the even distribution of weight through the joint, preventing wear and tear damage that can lead to osteoarthritis.
