View of cracked-mud surface at Kabakli lake, whose waters are withdrawn from the extreme heat. Kabakli lake, near the city of Diyarbakir in Turkey, where hundreds of birds are sheltering, is drying up due to the effective extreme temperatures. When the waters of the lake receded about 150 meters in the last month, wild birds began to leave the area. Dicle University Faculty of Science Biology Department Head Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kilic said that there are few birds left in the lake, and if the water sources completely dry up, thousands of migratory birds may die without migrating.
