Tesla's three-phase motor and blower. Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) carried out research in the 1880s and 1890s that led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. This included his invention of an induction motor that used polyphase current. A type of transformer is named for Tesla (the Tesla Coil), as is the SI unit of magnetic flux density.
