The specimen shown on plate 53 represents a decorated hunting hat from Katmai Island, Gooks Inlet, Alaska, and was collected by Mr. W, J. Fisher. %.. Fig. 44. LARGE KNIFE WITH ORNAMENTED HANDLE. This variety of head covering is common to the natives of the islands of Kadiak and those occupied by the Aleuts. This specimen is made of wood shaved down until the average thickness is only about one- fourth of an inch, wliile the height along the front, from the to^i to the bottom of the visor, is 9|^ inches.
