ISS space walk. Astronaut Patrick Forrester works on an experiment attached to the outside of the International Space Station (ISS). The experiment (out of frame at right) will test how different materials cope with conditions in Earth orbit. The experiment contains around 1500 different samples that will remain outside the ISS for about a year. Photographed on 18 August 2001, on mission STS-105 by the Space Shuttle Discovery (10-22 August 2001). The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres, has been manned since late 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
