The 45 miles of the North Pennines A686 route from Penrith in Cumbria to Corbridge in Northumberland, has been described by the AA magazine as as one of their 'Ten Great Drives'. The section shown here is at an altitude of 1900 feet heads towards Alston and is just east of the Hartside Pass and is one of the few long straight sections in this winding dramatic road.
