In the fourth century , a Christian bishop and missionary named Ulfilas (also Wulfila), who was at least half-Goth (Germanic) developed an alphabet for writing what became known as the Gothic language. He did so to translate the Bible from Greek into the language his people would understand. The letters pictured here are from a book published in Germany in 1909. They represent, from left to right: a, g, e, h, m, s, t.
