The Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, today met with the Mayor of the Spanish town of San Roque, Juan Carlos Riuz Boix. During a press conference after their meeting they indicated that the discussions had surrounded regional co-operation between both towns, although no concrete agreements had been reached. At the press call, questioned on recent media reports that there has been an bilateral ministerial agreement reached on co-operation between Britain and Spain over maritime issues, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar denied there had been any ministerial agreements signed. He further added that reports on such an agreement were based on Spanish claims trying to make Gibraltar look in a negative light. Further adding that following a serious incident in which an SVA crew had fired shots within British Gibraltar territorial waters, what had transpired was Spain had backed down from its position after the UK Government warned that they would be taking action which would not be in the interests of Spain. The Chief Minister denied any bilateral ministerial agreements on co-operation had been signed.
