Anacamptis mario is a native of western Eurasia, ranging from Europe to Iran. It is in a serous decline due to the damage done to its required habitat of unimproved species-rich meadows which disappeared due to intensive farming. In the Agarve can be found on grassy slopes and unploughed margins of some crop fields.
