A German medieval sword, 12th century. Extremely long, double-edged blade (Oakeshott type XI) with long fullers on both sides. One fuller bearing an elaborate silver-inlaid majuscule inscription the other with a two-line (!) inscription inlaid in gold and silver, the fullers surmounted by ornaments also inlaid in silver and gold. Short, robust, slightly tapered tang with heavy Brazil nut pommel (Oakeshott type B). Blade length 99 cm, total length cm. Unusually large and impressive medieval sword with high-quality decorations.
