Iridotomy, drawing

Illustration of laser iridotomy, a preventative or curative treatment for acute closed-angle glaucoma. The aqueous humour does not drain properly which leads to high intraocular pressure which in turn deforms the optic disc and progressively destroys the optic nerve. Laser iridotomy consists of making a tiny hole in the iris which normalises intraocular pressure.
