Main street in Zhangmu town (2,300m above sea-level), Nyalam County, Tibet Autonomous Region - Sep 2014

Zhangmu (Tibetan- Dram or Zham, Nepali- Khasa) is a customs town and port of entry on the Nepal-China border, just uphill and across the the Nepalese town of Kodari. Zhangmu was evacuated after being damaged by the 2015 Nepalese earthquakes and became a ghost town as trading could not return to previous levels, while traffic was diverted to the border crossing at Gyirong Town. The checkpoint finally reopened on 29 May 2019 to small businesses.
