Latiirop, Hope, was born in Tolland, Conn., about his youth he learned the platers trade, in Westminster, Vt.,and removed to Drewsville, N. II., in 1819, where he followedthat business a few years. He was appointed deputy sheriff,soon after he came to Drewsville, and held the office for sometime, while he also kept a hotel at the same place. He was oneof the directors of the Connecticut River Bank at Charlestownfor a long period, and was president of that institution at thetime of his death. For a number of years he was postmasterat Drewsville, and a merchant at the same time. He was a manof more than ordinary intellectual ability, to which were addedindomitable energy and persistency of character; he was cau-tious and sagacious in his business transactions, and, makingthe accumulation of wealth a paramount object of attainment, ? --? .. 5. FAMILY HISTORY. 311 he succeeded in amassing a large property from a humblebeginning. He married, first, Fanny, dau. of John Cooper, ofAlstead, by whom he had three daughters : I. Sarah E. B., Lovell. (See Lovell.) II. Lucia A., m. Norman Farr,of Bellows Falls, Vt., and resides there. III. Fanny, d. ininfancy. Mr. Lathrops wife died June 4, 1837, and he mar-ried, second, Sarah E., widow of Joseph Bond, M. D., anddaughter of Thomas C. Drew, of Drewsville.
