UNITED STATES - June 2023: Ibis spend time catching bugs in the abandoned village of Portsmouth. Hurricane Dorian, which made landfall on September 6, 2019 cut a total of 54 new inlets through the North Core Banks of the Cape Lookout National Seashore. The NPS said 38 structures at the Portsmouth historic site suffered major damage from either flooding or high winds. Portsmouth was established in 1753 and was a bustling port town early in its history before turning into a fishing village. Its last two residents left for the mainland in 1971. Almost all of the mature trees in the village were lost. (Photo By Douglas Graham)
