Flamingos Phoenicopterus ruber are water birds that measure meters and weighing between two and three kilos. Their legs are long, as its neck, curved beak is useful for digging the mud in search of food. They like to be isolated in groups in shallow lakes and high salinity. Its plumage varies between pink and red due to their diet of algae, insects and crustaceans. Abound in coastal lagoons and estuaries of the Yucatan Peninsula. In the protected áreas of Celestun and Rio Lagartos the flamingos lives permanently. Also lives in the Bahamas, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela and northeastern Brazil. Los flamencos Phoenicopterus ruber son aves acuáticas que miden metros y de dos a tres kilos de peso. Sus patas son alargadas, como su cuello de pico curvo útil para escarbar el lodo en busca de alimento. Habitan en grupos en lagunas de baja profundidad y alta salinidad. Gustan de estar aislados. Su plumaje varía entre el rosa y rojo debido a su alimentación de algas, insectos y crustáceos. Abundan en lagunas costeras y esteros de la Peninsula de Yucatan. En las protegidas de Celestun y Río Lagartos viven permanentemente. Habitan además en Bahamas, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela y el noreste brasileño.
