Copra roaster, Malakule, Vanuatu, South Pacific. Man putting coconut husks as fuel into the still, which roasts the coconuts as the first stage in converting them to copra. Copra is later turned into coconut oil. In many countries, this is done on the coconut plantation; villages are paid a very small amount for this. Copra production is the mainstay of the economies of many South Pacific islands.
