'Henry, Duke of Gloucester', 1736. Portrait of Henry Stuart, Duke of Gloucester (1640-1660), youngest son of King Charles I of England and Queen Henrietta Maria. He is depicted in an oval frame above two smoking candles, possibly alluding to his early death at the age of 20, his life being symbolically 'snuffed out'.
