Bumblebee royal python. Close-up of the head of a bumblebee colour morph of the royal python (Python regius) showing the sensory pits (lower right) above its mouth. These pits are used to detect infrared radiation (heat) given out by the snakes prey. This helps the snake to find its prey and is also thought to help it avoid predators.
