Narrowed carotid arteries. Coloured coronal computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the carotid arteries in the neck of a 53-year-old man. He has high blood pressure and is a smoker. This has caused narrowings in the carotid arteries (arrowed at centre left and centre right) due to an atheroma (blood vessel lesion) arising from atherosclerosis. Such blockages can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
